Primary School Cricket Competition

Term 1 and Term 4 2017

Burnside Primary School offers Cricket as a core After School Sport for all students in years 2-7. The season commences in Term 1 and then recommences in Term 4 for the second half of the season (Term 1 & 4).

Below is a detailed description of the three levels of Cricket offered:

Kanga Cricket – Year 2/3

A fast, simple introduction to the game for boys and girls, with a high emphasis placed on fun. Matches are played at Parkinson or Col Waite Oval on Saturday mornings during Term 1. Year 2 (Kanga Junior) games will commence at 9:30am and Year 3 (Kanga Senior) games will commences at 8:30am.

Junior Cricket – Year 4/5

Children play modified games with the emphasis on skill development and participation. Matches are played at various Primary Schools in the Kensington zone either on Friday afternoons for Year 4 students from 4.30-6.30pm or Saturday mornings for Year 5 students from 8.30am onwards. These are approx. two hour games.

Senior Cricket – Year 6/7

Slightly advanced matches for the older children with a high emphasis on skill development. Matches are played at various Primary Schools in the Kensington zone on Saturday mornings during Term 1 and Tem 4 from 8.30-12.00noon.

 TEAMS WILL REMAIN UNCHANGED FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON. THE SPORTS SUB COMMITTEE HOWEVER WILL ATTEMPT TO ACCOMODATE NEW PLAYERS TO THE TEAM IF POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE.

Hot Weather Policy:

Training: In the event of hot weather (forecast for the day 35 degrees as reported on bom.gov.au at 8am on the day of training) afternoon training outside shall be cancelled for the day. In the event that afternoon training is cancelled a red sign stating “After School Sports training Cancelled” will be placed on the Sports Notice board, as well as a notification on School Stream. Before school training will still go ahead. All training in the Gymnasium will occur regardless of the forecast due to this being an Air Conditioned facility.

 

Equipment required:

  • School Uniform (Kanga Cricket) or Crickets Whites (Year 4 - 7)
  • Sneakers
  • Greg Chappell Hat, Burnside Cap or Yellow School Hat (these items can be purchased from the uniform shop).
  • Cricket Protector Box is compulsary for all players in Year 4 and upward.

The School provides every team with a cricket kit which contains bats, pads, helmets and balls.
